It’s been a minute since I hosted a good dinner party. The craziness of this year has had me out of town most weekends, living out of a suitcase, not quite in the headspace to host. But I’ve been thinking about it a lot. Because I ADORE hosting. I’ve been obsessed with it since I was a kid. When I was in middle school, I’d sit on the floor of my bedroom on the weekends and plot out the dream dinner parties I’d throw as an adult; what I’d serve, what music I’d play, where I’d host them, what the vibe would be. If I could make a career out of hosting dinner parties, I’d do it.
I’m dying to throw one soon. And my craving has had me reflecting a lot on what exactly makes a good dinner party. In trying to put pen to paper on this, there are a few essentials I’ve settled on:
