Farm to Table Falanghina Pairing
A fresh & flowery spread to pair with one of Southern Italy's beloved white wines
I’m a little bummed that I deleted my photos of this meal with the wine in the frame. Phone storage is scarce as a content creator. Despite the subpar visual, I felt I had to share the recipes for this wine pairing from last fall, because it’s one of my favorites from 2024.
I developed these recipes to go with the Quintodecimo Via del Campo Falanghina, Falanghina is a favorite Italian white wine of mine - grown in the volcanic soils surrounding Mount Vesuvius in Campania, the Southern Italian region where I lived for two years as a kid. Zesty, herbaceous, and an all-around crowd-pleaser, it brings back my memories of running over the lawns of agriturismos while my parents shared platters of frutti di mare and flavor-packed insalate with our hosts.
This Quintodecimo is the pinnacle of Falaghina - otherwise thought of as a casual, seaside wine. All of its grapes come from a single vineyard and are aged in small oak barrels, lending excellent balance and acidity, along with notes of menthol, herbs, wet stone, lemon zest, white flowers, and green apple. This produce-driven, vibrant lunch really accentuates the beauty of this green goddess.
