How to Host a Mob Wife Wine Night
The kitschy girls night you didn't know you needed
No one tells you that when you hit your late twenties you lose any control over your schedule. Summer weekends are consumed by weddings, spring by bachelorette parties, early fall by conferences and work retreats, and late fall and winter by holiday family gatherings. This continues into your thirties, except now baby showers get squeezed into the schedule too.
What this means is that you rarely get to see your friends (unless, of course, you’re at the same wedding or bachelorette party, but we all know that’s a different vibe). While friendships in your early through mid-twenties mean weekly, or even nightly, hangs over reality TV series and (kind of cheap) wine, rehashing last’s weekend’s events, friendships in your late twenties and thirties means catching up on promotions and engagements over a quarterly dinner, if you’re lucky.
The only way to embrace this life stage - which I am VERY much in - is to go all out when you do see your friends. No more casual pizza hangs. The rare opportunity to get everyone together demands themed nights, fine wines, playing dress up, a multi course meal, and a custom playlist. We’re going quality over quantity now.
So a recent girls night when most of our group was finally in town at the same time called for nothing less than a Mob Wife Wine Night. Thoughtful, but playful. Fancy, but kitschy. Complete with a mood board, a playlist, old-school American Italian tablescapes, pizzas on cake stands, and - you know the drill - excellent wines.
Here’s exactly how to host one yourself: the table settings and where to get them, the wines, the perfect playlist. And for my male readers - there’s no reason this has to be a girls’ night. Call it Goodfellas or Godfather or Sopranos themed and invite everyone instead.
